Prostitution

Prostitution has been around since the Victorian times and before. There have been many attempts to regulate prostitution, including the implementation of a Contagious Diseases Act in 1862-1867 - meaning that all prostitutes had to submit themselves for testing against STDs.

This testing proved effective in some areas but in others it was ineffective and contagious diseases continued to spread. I think that banning prostitution will amount to a similar thing to this - whereby people will spread prostitution in an attempt to avoid detection.

I'm also getting a little annoyed at the fact that they are mixing the terms prostitution or sex work - sex work can include lap dancing, pole dancing and stripping, work that involves using sexuality to sell. Prostitution is specifically selling sex acts.

Male prostitutes should also be considered in this ideal because they are also at risk. Boys can be forced to have sex in exchange for money - specifically targeting a homosexual group and they should be given the same treatment as females.

I am willing to bet that people are unaware of charity groups who supply prostitutes for people who are physically disabled. These men and women allow disabled people to experiene sexuality - providing intimacy, touch, and in some cases physical for those locked in their own world on how to pleasure themselves. If prostitution is banned then these disabled people run the risk of becoming more and more isolated.
